Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden is definitely a great day out for the all age groups.
There is so much to see and do that you could certainly make a full day of it if you wished. The complex covers in total an area of 600 acres. Many people do in deed go to see the gardens, but there is so much to see that we probably should segment this article into sections, and give a brief overview of each activity.
The Cultural Show
A lavish contemporary Thai cultural performance. Mix of dance and martial arts performances on an elaborate stage with lots of music color and action. There are 6 shows every day with each show lasting just under 1 hour. The first show of the day stats at 9:45 AM.
The Elephant Show
The elephant performance runs at the same times as the cultural show, and as most people attend the cultural show immediately before the elephant show, there is a bit of a mad rush for the best seats as everyone exits the indoor theater to watch the elephants perform.
Now I know that some may feel that performing animals is not good under any circumstances and that it should be prohibited as it is unnatural for the animal. Some performing animals are poorly treated but at Nong Nooch they do appear to be well treated and cared for and based on the antics of the elephants they appeared to be enjoying performing to an audience. You have the opportunity to feed bananas to the elephants before the show, and you need to be in the front row for this.
The performances by the elephants includes basketball, ten pin bowling, soccer, darts and painting. They paint on a T-shirt and 3 lucky people have the opportunity to buy the
hand painted trunk painted shirts after the show.
If you so choose, you can ride on the back of the elephants on a mini tour of the grounds.
There are four restaurants, each catering for slightly different needs. You can choose between traditional Thai, Isan (north eastern Thailand, very spicy), Indian and European/Western foods. Food is available from as early as 7:00 AM
The Car Garden
It appears as if the owner has a liking for unusual, rare, or interesting cars, including many rare sports cars. This has been a relatively recent addition to Nong Nooch.
The gardens are extensive and laid out with each section based on a different them. There are over 30 themes in total including, ant towers, desert roses, animal sculptures, cactus, bonsai just to mention a few. You could literally roam for hours but if you do I would recommend an umbrella to shade you from the tropical heat.
Other activities include fish feeding, Thai massage, paddle boats, bicycle hire and riding, and the sky walk. It also has a mini zoo with kid friendly farm animals and some birds. Although the birds were not chained or caged, I suspect they had their wings clipped.
